Use of the SHA-1 cryptographic algorithm is no longer advisable according to NIST https://www.fosslife.org/sha-1-algorithm-reaches-end-life #security #NIST #SHA1 #algorithm #cryptography
@meb in the article, NIST recommends migrating to SHA-2 or SHA-3 as soon as possible. Probably best to follow the link to the NIST site to learn more https://www.nist.gov/news-events/news/2022/12/nist-retires-sha-1-cryptographic-algorithm
@FOSSlife thanks. I don’t suppose there’s a prediction regarding for how long SHA-2 or 3 will remain safe for? I mean with conventional computing. Quantum computing at scale is another story.
@meb I'm afraid I don't know about that.
@FOSSlife no worries. If I find out I’ll share. Cheers.
@FOSSlife what’s the recommended algorithms for standard web applications today?
